Los Angeles Sues Jonathan Club

Share

Now that the Jonathan Club has members of all races, creeds, and sexes, I thought The Times would at long last quit using the club as its whipping boy. But no! I read with interest the Jan. 8 article in Metro wherein The Times gave prominent display to an article reporting that the city is suing the Jonathan Club for not giving women club members access to the men’s grill. It is true that women members do not have access to the men’s restrooms, the men’s locker rooms and the men’s grill.

However, the article failed to point out that women have free use of the other Jonathan Club dining facilities, including (1) the third floor main dining room; (2) the Florentine Lounge; (3) the 13th floor members-only grill; (4) the third floor light hors d’oeuvres and bar; (5) the main dining room at the Beach facility; (6) the two deck dining areas at the Beach facility; (7) the Beach facility grill; (8) the main bar at the Beach facility. In addition, the women members have free access and use of all the private dining rooms on the downtown facility fourth floor as well as the numerous social functions at the Beach facility, town club facility, and elsewhere.

The city attorney’s office was silly enough to file this lawsuit in the first place. The Times was even sillier in prominently and seriously reporting it.
