Sidney Bernstein; Malibu Civic Activist

Sidney Bernstein, 69, former president of the Malibu Township Council and a longtime civic activist in that coastal area. Owner of a school equipment firm, Bernstein took a year away from his business in 1984 to become chief of protocol for water polo during the Olympics Games. He also was co-founder and chairman of the board of Malibu Savings & Loan Assn. and member of the board of the Los Angeles County Beaches Advisory Commission. In Malibu on Saturday of an apparent heart attack.
