Hostage negotiator Terry Waite was moved around Beirut with other captives in coffins early last year, a freed French hostage said. French radio journalist Roger Auque, 31, said in a television interview broadcast in Britain that he was certain he saw the Anglican Church envoy about three months after his abduction last January. “I am 90% sure it was Terry Waite,” Auque said. “He was very thin, he lost a lot of weight.” Auque said he caught a glimpse of Waite as he, Waite and another hostage were placed in coffins so they could be transported from one hiding place to another. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert A. K. Runcie, plans to hold a prayer service today to mark the first anniversary of Waite’s disappearance.
