One of New York City’s most vocal black activists secretly gave federal agents information on black leaders and elected officials, according to a published report. The Rev. Al Sharpton Jr. denounced the report by New York Newsday, calling it ludicrous and politically motivated. Sharpton said he had provided authorities information on drug dealers, but denied he informed on civil rights leaders and organized crime figures. The 33-year-old Pentecostal Church minister has captured attention in the past several years by leading protest marches, holding prayer vigils and speaking out constantly against drugs and racism.
