Westwood : New Head for Medicine Dept.

Dr. Vay Liang W. Go, a professor of gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic, has been appointed executive chairman of the department of medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine, the university announced.

The appointment is effective April 1. Go succeeds Dr. Roy Young, who has served as acting chairman of the department since June, 1986. Young plans to return to teaching.

Go was recently on leave to the National Institutes of Health, where he directed both the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. He has been a member of various advisory committees in the field of medicine and was co-editor of a textbook on diseases of the pancreas.
