Kenneth Kaminsky is a young artist still figuring out how to make a splash. Already this year he has tried attaching the bottom portion of a chair and a hunk of metal to a painting hopefully entitled “Celestial Pollock” and building up a huge, encrusted expanse of canvas with a tumble of skeletal rectangular boxes drizzled with multicolor speckles and striations (“Concrete Jungle”).

But his penchant for the big gesture has found savvier expression in a painting of double trios of open-to-view boxes filled with black Kline-like calligraphy and rimmed with shouting red and yellow. Called “Corporate Ladder (Trapped in Tulsa),” it looks like it’s really about being trapped in Tokyo. (Richard/Bennett Gallery, 332 1/2 N. La Brea Ave., to Feb. 13.)
