The archives division of the Orange County Public Library, after only four years of existence, has received the American Assn. of State and Local History Award of Merit. It was conferred by the national group at its annual meeting in Raleigh, N.C.

“The archives (division) is honored to receive a national professional award,” said Orange County archivist Gabriele Carey, who noted that it is the nation’s most prestigious competition for state and local history achievement.

She said the award was presented for “creating a model archive program in a short period of time.” The archives division was established by the county Board of Supervisors in April, 1983.
