Marine Slayers Amnesty Upheld
An El Salvador military court upheld today the granting of amnesty to three leftist rebels convicted in the 1985 killing of 13 people, four of them U.S. Marines, officials said.
An official of the military court said the rebels, members of the Farabundo Marti Front for National Liberation, would be allowed to leave prison sometime today. They were granted amnesty under the terms of the Central American peace plan. The three were convicted of the 1985 shooting deaths of 13 people as they dined at a cafe in San Salvador’s “Pink Zone” entertainment district. Among those killed were four U.S. Marines and two other U.S. citizens, both computer technicians.
