San Diego State Women Fall to Late Fullerton Rally, 67-64

The Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team scored the final five points to beat San Diego State, 67-64, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game at Peterson Gym Monday night.

Eugenia Miller scored with less than a minute to play to give Fullerton a 66-64 lead. With 15 seconds to play, Fullerton’s Jill Matyuch sank one of two free throws.

Matyuch led Fullerton (11-6 overall, 6-2 in the PCAA) with 27 points. Chana Perry paced SDSU (13-4, 5-2) with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Haynes added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

FOOTBALL

Joe Heinz, an offensive lineman at Chula Vista High School, Vista running back Mark Jones and Torrey Pines linebacker Tyler Batson have announced oral commitments to play college football next fall. Heinz plans to attend San Diego State, Jones is going to Colorado and Batson is going to Stanford.

Other schools interested in Heinz were UCLA, USC, Brigham Young and Utah. Batson said he made his decision after visiting Stanford two weeks ago. He had also received scholarship offers from UCLA, USC, Colorado, Washington and California. Jones had narrowed his decision to Colorado and San Diego State.

Feb. 10 is the first day players can sign a national letter of intent.
