- Stagecoach Park in Carlsbad will be an artwork richer thanks to the City Council’s appropriation of $75,000 for a playground sculpture.

The City of Carlsbad Arts Commission has announced a regional competition to award the commission. Ron Onorato, senior curator at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, will select three finalists, who will be awarded $2,500 each for maquettes of their proposed sculptures. After display of the maquettes, the artist will be selected and awarded $75,000 to create the work.

The commission’s ad for the competition says that it is interested in “creative proposals, sculptural or environmental in nature.” Artists interested in more information can call the Carlsbad Arts Office.
