The massive flow of immigrants to the United States in recent years has had little impact on the nation’s job market except in a few key states, according to a two-year study commissioned by the Ford Foundation. The study, conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research, noted that more than half of all immigrants since 1980 have settled in four states--California, New York, Texas and Florida. In these areas, the study showed a significant impact on jobs, aggravated by the apparent immobility of the immigrants.
