UC Irvine Women Win Tennis Opener

Kelly Goldfborough and Karin Bering defeated Nicki Lusty and Jody Engen, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, in No. 3 doubles to lift the UC Irvine women’s tennis team to a 5-4 nonconference victory over Pepperdine Tuesday at Pepperdine.

The match was tied, 3-3, after singles play, and 4-4 after two doubles matches.

Pepperdine’s Lusty and Engen led, 5-4, in the third set and had three match points. Goldfborough and Bering rallied for the game and eventually the match. Irvine is 1-0.
