The Air Force said it plans to close its less productive ROTC units on 37 college campuses in 23 states over the next 18 months because of military budget cutbacks. The move will reduce the number of campuses having Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps units from 151 to 114, the service announced. Of the 37, seven will be “consolidated” in the sense that other colleges nearby will continue to offer Air Force ROTC to interested students of these schools, the statement said. The ROTC unit at the University of California, Berkeley, is among those to be closed.
