THE COLLEGES : Weichsel Leads UC Irvine Past Las Vegas in Tennis

Courtney Weichsel rallied to sweep her singles sets and lead UC Irvine to a 7-2 victory over Nevada Las Vegas in a nonconference women’s tennis match Wednesday at UC Irvine.

Weichsel, the Anteaters’ top singles player, trailed Jolene Watanabe, 5-2, in the first set before rallying for a 7-5 victory. She won the second set, 6-3, as Irvine won four of the six singles matches.

The Anteaters (2-0) swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Dina Trenwith and Haruko Shigekawa defeated Watanabe and Cindy Pineda, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.

UNLV is 2-1.
