Japan Air Lines signed contracts with General Electric Co. committing the airline to spend $150 million to purchase 24 jet engines from GE for use on five American-made jetliners. Japan Air Lines said it will use the 24 CF6-80C2 jet turbofan engines to power five 747-400 jetliners being manufactured by Boeing Co. of Seattle. Some will be used as spares. The engines are to be produced at GE’s aircraft engine plant in Evendale, Ohio, a Cincinnati suburb.
