The Japanese electrical company NEC is encouraging Japanese to tour Egypt to provide the less affluent Egyptians with money to buy NEC televisions. “We created our Cleopatra Strategy in response to a request from the Egyptian government,” said Junji Kobayashi, general manager at NEC. The company is arranging discounted package tours to send 600 Japanese tourists to Egypt by April. “The Egyptian government promised to spend half of the air fare receipts and all of the income from hotel and restaurant bills to pay for the exports,” Kobayashi said.
