USIU Women Beat Toreras

The U.S. International University women’s basketball team took a 10-0 lead and went on to easily defeat the University of San Diego, 79-70, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday night.

USIU (10-6) led by scores of 15-4 and 19-6. USD (7-11) closed the gap to 19-14 but never came closer.

USIU eventually built its lead to 20, at 66-46, with 7:13 to play.

USIU made 48.4% (30 of 62) of its shots; the Toreras shot 32.9% (26-79). USIU also made 19 of 31 free throws.

Sonya Carter, Amanda Spry and Fiona Murray each scored 14 points for USIU, and teammate Daisy Mendez added 12. Jane Gilpin scored 21 for USD.
