Trans World Airlines Inc. said it turned financial losses into profits for the whole year, aided by a rise in passenger traffic. TWA, the nation’s sixth-largest airline, said it posted full-year net income of $106.2 million, contrasted with a net loss of almost the same amount--$106.3 million--in 1986. Revenue for the year jumped 27.4% to $4 billion. The results for 1987 exclude unrealized gains of $123 million from investments. TWA noted that its 1986 performance was negatively affected by a flight attendants’ strike during the first half of the year, and later got a boost in the fourth quarter by the sale of half of its ticketing system.
