A trust fund has been established for the family of Lt. Fred House, the Utah Department of Corrections officer killed last week while trying to help end the 13-day standoff between authorities and a violent polygamist clan in Marion, Utah. House was buried Monday, on what would have been his 36th birthday. He died when a bullet missed his bullet-proof vest by half an inch during the shoot-out between police and the polygamists, who were wanted in connection with the bombing of a nearby Mormon chapel. The clan’s leader, Addam Swapp, was critically wounded in the confrontation. Homicide charges are expected to be filed by the end of the week. The slain officer is survived by his widow, Ann, and three small children. Valley Bank & Trust Co. at 3430 S. Redwood Road in Salt Lake City is handling the trust fund.
