Hand Grenade Found on Jetliner

BEIRUT —
A hand grenade was found in the toilet of a Lebanese jetliner today 30 minutes before it was to leave Beirut airport for Cairo, police said.
“The grenade was not equipped with a detonator,” said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Police and Syrian soldiers searched all passengers and luggage in an effort to find the detonator. The spokesman said they hoped to determine whether the grenade had been hidden on the Middle East Airlines Boeing 707 to be used in a hijacking attempt.
