Fluor Wants Foreign Focus

Share

Fluor Corp., which received much of its revenue from foreign refinery and pipeline projects until a worldwide oil industry slump took its toll, said it is starting a campaign to increase its international presence once again.

Hugh K. Coble, 52, the group president of Fluor Daniel, the company’s key construction subsidiary, will head the effort, with an objective of landing contracts for a wide range of industrial and commercial projects overseas. Flour spokesman Rick Maslin said Fluor wants to achieve a better balance of overseas undertakings relative to domestic construction projects.

In 1976, Fluor’s international business accounted for a record 93% of the company’s construction backlog. By the end of 1987, international construction contracts made up just 13% of the backlog.
