College Tennis : UCI’s Kaplan Loses in Quarterfinals
Mark Kaplan of UC Irvine was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Men’s Indoor Tennis Championships at Minneapolis Friday.
Kaplan, the seventh-seeded player, lost to Shelby Cannon of Tennessee, 7-6, 6-4. Cannon is the fifth-seeded player in the tournament. Kaplan had defeated Alex Nizet of Southern Methodist, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, earlier Friday.
In a nonconference women’s match:
UC Irvine 7, Loyola Marymount 2--Courtney Weichsel, Irvine’s No. 1 player, defeated Kris Anderson, 7-5, 6-4, at Loyola Marymount. Irvine (4-0) won five of six singles matches.
