The Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini will create a commission of clergymen and politicians to settle disputes between Iran’s Parliament and the religious Council of Guardians, Tehran Radio reported. There have been reports of a growing power struggle between the Islamic republic’s branches of government. The broadcast said Khomeini, Iran’s supreme leader, acted in response to letters from the nation’s top officials asking his guidance if legislation passed by the Majlis, or Parliament, is blocked by the Council of Guardians, a body of 12 experts in Islamic law that has the power to kill any bill.
