Apple Computer began shipping a version of the Unix operating system for its top-of-the-line Macintosh II computer. The move, to be announced today at the Uniforum trade show in Dallas, will enhance Apple’s ability to compete in the rapidly growing market for engineering and scientific workstations. Apple said its new A/UX operating system will combine the easy-to-learn user interface of the Macintosh with the power of Unix, which is used primarily in engineering and other scientific applications.
