Icahn Can Take Ridicule, Except in the Movies
Corporate takeover strategist Carl C. Icahn says he was offered a part playing himself in the movie “Wall Street” but turned it down.
He says he rejected the role partly because he was concerned that the film’s villainous main character, portrayed by actor Michael Douglas, “could have insulted me behind my back.”
Icahn, 51, made the assertion in an autobiographical article that appears in the Feb. 29 edition of Fortune magazine.
Marion Billings, a publicist for the film, said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.”
“Wall Street” is the story of how Gordon Gekko, a ruthless corporate raider and stock speculator portrayed by Douglas, corrupts young broker Bud Fox, as played by Charlie Sheen.
“Someday I’d like to produce a movie about what Wall Street is really like,” Icahn wrote.
“My character could have sounded great in my scenes, but then the other characters like Michael Douglas could have insulted me behind my back.”
