Having a live-in lover is no longer a criminal offense in any part of Switzerland.

The Parliament in the small Alpine canton of Uri voted on Wednesday to remove the crime of concubinage from the statute books.

Uri was the last of Switzerland’s 26 cantons to have retained a formal ban on unmarried couples “living in sin.” The law, under which offenders were liable to fines, had not been applied for many years.
