Youth With AIDS

Share

I was appalled to read about the incredibly inhumane conditions under which DeWayne Mowery must live (“Boy With AIDS Is Lone Pupil in Cell-Sized Classroom,” Part I, Feb. 8). The community of Lake City, Tenn., should be ashamed of itself. As a nation which places so much trust in medical and scientific communities, we seem to have lost this trust when the subject is AIDS.

I cannot tell you how angry this story and many others like it make me feel. I wish that I were a teacher so that I could offer to teach the children of the world who have AIDS. Instead all I can do is try and offer my love and support to these children and their families and also to work harder to stop the discrimination of people with AIDS by ignorant and unfeeling people.
