Biden Has Surgery to Correct Aneurysm
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) underwent neurosurgery Friday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center to correct an aneurysm of an artery that supplies blood to the brain, his spokesman said.
“There is every indication that the senator will recover satisfactory and will have no significant aftereffects,” Pete Smith said. He said that the procedure, called clipping, did not involve removal of any brain tissue. Biden, 45, was “awake, alert, oriented and moving all extremities well.”
Walter Reed listed Biden, who is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as “seriously ill” and in intensive care, a normal procedure for surgery patients.
He was admitted to the hospital Friday and underwent tests to determine the cause of neck pains.
