Global Village Update: China, where television was a rare luxury 20 years ago, now has 600 million television viewers--more than any other country, the New China News Agency said Monday. There are 100 million television sets in the country (compared with about 89 million in the United States) and China is the world’s top producer of black-and-white receivers and the third-largest manufacturer of color sets, the agency said.
