Vitesse Semiconductor Raises $8.1 Million

Vitesse Semiconductor, a Camarillo maker of high-performance computer chips made from the advanced semiconductor material gallium arsenide, said it has raised $8.1 million in financing.

The money raised came in equal amounts from new and old investors. New ones include Oak Investment Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, Mohr Davidow Ventures, Hook Partners and the Singapore Development Board.

Previous investors include Sequoia Capital; Robertson, Coleman & Stephens; J.H. Whitney; New Enterprise Associates; Spectra Enterprise Associates; The Norton Company; Walden Capital; Oxford Ventures, and Bryan & Edwards.

Vitesse, a private company with about $5 million in annual revenues, is the surviving operation of Vitesse Electronics, which was founded in 1984 and was involved in developing small supercomputers as well as the gallium arsenide chips. Vitesse Semiconductor raised $10 million in its first round of financing one year ago.
