The FBI is involved in an investigation of two Los Angeles Police Department officers suspected of a “possible improper association with an informant” in a case involving organized crime figures, according to a police official.

The two LAPD officers were members of the department’s organized crime intelligence division and reportedly worked with the informant in an investigation into possible illegal activities involving motion picture unions. LAPD spokesman William Booth said the investigation was begun by LAPD to determine if the officers passed too much confidential information to the informant in exchange for useless information.

“Because of the FBI’s interest in the same kind of organized crime issues we are interested in, we have kept them close to developments in our internal investigation,” Booth said.
