Share

Fighting erupted again in a border dispute between Thailand and Laos that has killed hundreds of soldiers on both sides, but officials said peace talks have been scheduled between high-ranking generals. Laos Radio charged that Thailand’s American-built F-5E fighter-bombers flew “many sorties” against the village of Nakok, 20 miles inside Laos, causing heavy loss of life and property. At the same time, Thai officials charged that 65 Laotian artillery shells hit the Na Haeo district. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda confirmed that Thailand will receive a Laotian military delegation led by Gen. Sisavat Keobounphan, chief of the Laotian general staff.
