College Roundup : Cadigan Leads UCI in Tennis

Mike Cadigan won his fourth straight dual match to lead UC Irvine to a 7-2 victory over the University of San Diego Monday in a nonconference men’s tennis match at San Diego.

Cadigan, the Anteaters’ No. 4 singles player, defeated Mark Ferren, 6-4, 6-1. Cadigan is 6-2 in dual matches this season.

Irvine’s Richard Luben defeated Dan Mattera, 6-0, 6-1 and teammate Trevor Kronemann defeated Scott Patridge, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Irvine, ranked 11th in the nation, is 3-1. San Diego, ranked 23rd, is 3-3.

In nonconference baseball:

UC Irvine 8, United States International 8 (13 innings)--After 13 innings in San Diego, the game was called because of darkness.

Irvine rallied for one run in the eighth inning to tie the score, 8-8. Mike Fay led off the inning with a double to left field and went to third on Jeff Oberdank’s fly to right. Fay scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Stacey Parker.

Oberdank went 4 of 7, with a double and home run. John Seeburger drove in two runs for Irvine (5-5-1).

College of Idaho 5, Southern California College 3--Idaho scored four times in the top of the eighth inning for a come-from-behind victory.

Doug Oates and Shawn Humberger each had run-scoring singles in the eighth for Idaho (1-0). Doug Euper worked one inning of relief to pick up the victory, with help from John Braase, who pitched the ninth for a save. Mark Deushane (0-1) took the loss.

Mike Frei went 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in for SCC (2-7).
