CPR Classes

As a longtime volunteer cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor for the American Heart Assn., I am distressed by reading in The Times, and seeing on TV, parents having to phone 911, or a Sheriff’s deputy, or other outside assistance when an infant suffers clinical death, or is choking. Parents should take the four-hour childsaver course offered by American Heart Assn. or Red Cross programs. Infant and small child CPR are taught, as well as how to deal with an obstructed airway (choking).

Furthermore, it is my belief and I am backed by many other CPR instructors in this, that it should be standard practice for both pediatricians and obstetricians to counsel parents and prospective parents to take this simple training. There’s no doubt that many small lives are lost because someone attending the victim is untrained.
