United Mine Workers officials rescinded an offer to merge with the Oil, Chemical & Atomic Workers union, and UMW President Richard Trumka said he considers the idea dead. The UMW’s executive board voted to rescind its merger after Tuesday’s OCAW decision to reject the proposed merger, Trumka said. “Obviously, I’m quite disappointed by the outcome . . . but we’re going to go back and put it back together and go on,” he said.
