Monrovia : ‘Tree City U. S. A.’ Award

Share

The National Arbor Day Foundation has designated Monrovia as a “Tree City U. S. A.” for its efforts to encourage tree care and planting.

Communities qualify for the honor by having a city tree ordinance, a legal tree governing body, a comprehensive urban forestry program and an observance of Arbor Day. In Monrovia, the governing body is the Community Services Commission, and the ordinance is a master plan involving the number of trees on street parkways. The ordinance also prohibits trimming oak trees.

The state Forestry Department, which recommended Monrovia, will honor the city at an Arbor Day celebration March 7 at 3:30 p.m. at Library Park on Myrtle and Palm avenues.
