Italian financier Carlo De Benedetti doubled the price of his offer for stock in Societe Generale de Belgique SA. De Benedetti, who says he already controls 45% of Belgium’s biggest holding company, said he wanted to pay $228.57 a share to buy 7% of the company’s 28.2 million shares. Earlier this week, several Belgian, French, Swiss and Luxembourg companies said they had blocked De Benedetti’s effort to take control of Societe Generale by forming an alliance that resulted in a 52% stake.
