MR. MISTER DELIVERS: Judging from the spate of pop song titles that have been appropriated for movie titles, we’re beginning to get the feeling that all of Hollywood’s current generation of marketing execs grew up with a guitar in their hands. So we were naturally curious when we stumbled on to the new Warner Bros. film, “Stand and Deliver” (due out here March 11), which has the same moniker as a song by popsters Mr. Mister. A coincidence, perhaps? No way. In fact, the Mr. Mister song is featured in the film, a true-life story of an inspirational East Los Angeles high school teacher, which originally was made under the title “Walking on Water.”

“We all knew that we didn’t want to keep the original title,” said Warners publicity and marketing exec Rob Friedman. “We also had other problems with the film. The energy level of the ending scenes wasn’t what we wanted, the movie was a little too long and we weren’t particularly happy with the score.”

Enter Warners president of music Gary LeMel, with a batch of new songs, including Mr. Mister’s “Stand and Deliver.” The song worked perfectly with the new ending the studio devised for the film, Friedman explained, adding: “We all ended up liking the song title so much that we decided to use it for the film too.”
