Fatal Blast Rips Barn in IRA Area

BELFAST, Northern Ireland —
A powerful explosion ripped apart a barn today in the Irish Republican Army’s “bandit country” and police said there were a number of deaths.
“We found body parts but the explosion was so powerful we don’t know how many people were killed,” a police spokesman said. Police sources said the explosion apparently occurred prematurely while an IRA squad was preparing a bomb attack.
