Post Office

The discontinuation of Saturday service at local post offices in an effort to cut $1.2 billion from the postal budget is both uncaring and self-serving on the part of Congress.

Does Congress consider the effect on the elderly and disabled who have to go to a main office? Does Congress consider the effect on honest workers who have to go to main offices? Does Congress consider the effect on postal workers who will have lower paychecks? The obvious answer to all these questions is no.

Congress voted itself pay increases in 1987. Why? I really don’t know.

Budget cuts should start with Congress. They created the deficit. If any Congressman refuses to take a pay reduction from his or her $89,500 a year salary, then let them resign. The “representation” (what a laugh), we get from most of them is not worth half their salary. I know Rep. Howard Berman’s (D-Panorama City) advice is not worth one-fourth of his salary.
