Daniel Arap Moi was elected to a third term as president of Kenya when he filed unopposed as a member of Parliament. The filing was a formality since Moi was the sole presidential candidate nominated Saturday by the ruling Kenya Africa National Union, which he leads. By law, it is Kenya’s only political party. Moi, 63, has been president of the East African nation since 1978, when as vice president he succeeded the late Jomo Kenyatta, the nation’s first leader. Joseph Mwangovya, supervisor of elections, announced Moi’s election after the president presented his election papers.
