There are two West Coast premieres on tap for this weekend--San Diego State University’s “Hitler’s Childhood,” by Swedish playwright Niklas Radstrom, and the Sixth Avenue Playhouse’s “Juno’s Swans,” by New York actress/playwright E. Katherine Kerr.

“Hitler’s Childhood” will be presented Friday through March 12 at the Don Powell Theater on the SDSU campus. It follows August Strindberg’s “Miss Julie” as the second in a series of plays at SDSU commemorating the “Year of New Sweden,” declared by President Reagan in honor of the 350th anniversary of the first Swedish colony in the United States.

Because of editing errors in Wednesday’s San Diego County Spotlight column, playwright and actress E. Katherine Kerr was incorrectly mentioned as starring in the San Diego Actors Theatre production of her play, “Juno’s Swans,” at the Sixth Avenue Playhouse (Friday through March 26). Kerr is appearing in an A.R. Gurney Jr. play, “Scenes From an American Life,” at the Long Wharf Theatre in Long Island. The San Diego Repertory Theatre production will star local actors Amy Simon, Ronald Lang and the theater’s artistic director, Patricia Elmore.

“Juno’s Swans,” a first play (by Kerr) about the problematic relationship between an actress and her married sister, runs Friday through March 26 at the Sixth Avenue Playhouse. Kerr, who won and Obie award for her performance in “Cloud Nine,” will star in the San Diego production.

Though “Juno’s Swans” opened in New York off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theater, its production here may be regarded as the world premiere of a work-in-progress. Kerr has made major revisions in the script since it was acquired for a San Diego run, and there are plans to reproduce it off-Broadway under the title “But Don’t Tell Mother.”
