Farmers who participated in last year’s feed grain program will get about $1.45 billion in government “deficiency” payments this month, with all but $225 million of it for corn farmers, the Agriculture Department said. Under the program, deficiency payments are required when average market prices fall below a prescribed target price. The payments make up the difference between the target and the market price or support level, whichever is higher.
