Squabble Over the Nomination of Lungren for State Treasurer

Now we know how the Duke operates, and concerning the Lungren nomination, it sounds like old-time dirty politics to me (Part I, Feb. 24). Scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Deukmejian bases his decisions about Assembly bills upon whether or not he “feels kindly” toward the bill’s author.

I was taught that objective analysis of the merits of the bill had something to do with it. I guess I’d better get out the old back scratcher and start practicing.
