The World : Rights Panel to Tour Cuba

Share

The U.N. Human Rights Commission accepted an invitation from Cuban President Fidel Castro to send its first delegation to Cuba to investigate allegations of human rights abuses. The 43-member body approved without a vote the decision drafted by four Latin American countries to accept the Cuban invitation. A six-member delegation, including the chairman of the commission, will visit Cuba for “about five days” in July or August, then reconvene in Geneva in January to draft and adopt a report, one commission member said. The commission unanimously approved another resolution calling on El Salvador to investigate right-wing death squads.
