The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has fined the owner of the North Anna nuclear power plant $100,000 after operators failed to respond promptly to an equipment malfunction, officials said.

Monitoring instruments on two pipes carrying steam to the plant’s generators malfunctioned, and operators did not respond for about 10 hours, according to the NRC, which imposed the penalty Wednesday against Virginia Power Co. Under commission rules, operators must take action within an hour.
