Jesse Jackson finished first in Alaska’s Democratic precinct caucuses, posting a narrow victory over Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis in a non-binding preference poll announced today.

With about 90% of Alaska’s 442 precincts reporting, Jackson claimed 872 delegates, or 35% of the total, to Dukakis’ 769 delegates, or 31%. A close third, however, were 768 delegates, or 31%, who were uncommitted. Tennessee Sen. Albert Gore Jr. finished a distant fourth, with 47 delegates or 2%, followed by Illinois Sen. Paul Simon with 18 delegates, less than 1%, and Missouri Rep. Richard A. Gephardt, 16 delegates for less than 1%.
