Charles Agee Atkins, who ran a tax...
Charles Agee Atkins, who ran a tax shelter scheme involving prominent Wall Street and show business figures, was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in what government officials described as the largest tax fraud case ever filed. Atkins, 33, was also placed on probation for four years and was ordered to perform community service during that time. Atkins had been a managing partner of the Securities Groups. Atkins was convicted in December of conspiracy and fraud charges involving the preparation of false tax returns that were submitted by wealthy investors. Atkins was indicted in March, 1987, for creating $1.3 billion in fraudulent losses and expenses by trading in U.S. Treasury bill futures and other government securities.
