Local News in Brief : Foes Call Reiner Unethical

Share

Three candidates running for Los Angeles County district attorney joined Wednesday to accuse incumbent Ira Reiner of making an “unethical . . . behind-the-scenes deal” to get an endorsement from the Assn. of Deputy District Attorneys board.

At a press conference, deputy prosecutors Lea Purwin D’Agostino and Iver Bye, along with lawyer Alfred A. Calabro, accused Reiner of using “back room deal making” to persuade some ADDA board members to support him.

They contended that the endorsement was made by a bare quorum of the board and without consultation with the approximately 400 Los Angeles County deputy district attorneys--including D’Agostino and Bye--who are members of the association.

The three said the endorsement concerned them because it will influence voters.
