A fire aboard the U.S. cruise liner Scandinavian Star, carrying 450 Americans and 270 crew in the Gulf of Mexico, disabled the ship’s engines, U.S. and Mexican shipping officials said. There was no move to evacuate the ship and no fire injuries were reported, but a 71-year-old male passenger suffered a heart attack and was transported by helicopter to Florida for treatment. Ships from the Mexican navy helped extinguish the blaze and were towing the liner to Cancun.
